HOUSE CONDO DUPLEX TRIPLEX FOR SALE MERCIER

History of MERCIER

Mercier is the name of an old district of the City of Montreal in the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. Today, the territory of the former district is divided in two by Highway 25. To the east, we find the district of Mercier-Est and west, that of Mercier-Ouest.

Mercier area was bounded by the St. Lawrence River to the south, Sherbrooke Street to the north (near Jean-Talon and Yves -Prévost Boulevard in some places), Viau Street to the west and the territory of Montreal -East to the east.

This name was given in honor of Honoré Mercier (1840-1894), lawyer, journalist, Prime Minister and Attorney General of the Province of Quebec from 1887 to 1891.

This area is located in the eastern part of the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. It is bounded on the east by the city of Montreal east and north by the borough Anjou. This sector was dramatically altered by the construction of Pont Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine tunnel. The highway leading to the tunnel was constructed within the old center of Longue- Pointe. It destroyed among other Saint Francis of Assisi -de -la- Longue- Pointe Church to leave the door open to entries from the bridge-tunnel. This church succeeded one built in 1724, itself rebuilt after a fire. Despite this there are still many interesting buildings to see in the area.
