History of MILTON-PARC-MCGILL-GHETTO
Milton Park (or McGill Ghetto) is a neighborhood in the district Le Plateau -Mont- Royal in Montreal, immediately east of the downtown campus of McGill University.
Milton Park neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Montreal. Inhabited since 1783 is the mid-nineteenth century that this portion of the territory of the city of Montreal is a neighborhood itself. The area is composed mostly of historic townhouses. Many were built in the 1900s for businessmen means working in offices in downtown adjacent. It was the spirit of the neighborhood before the great waves of elites moving to the suburbs, such as Westmount, for English speakers.
Although the name “McGill Ghetto” is commonly used to identify this area, it is more appropriate to call it by its real name is Milton Park neighborhood. The area is inhabited by permanent residents, property owners and members of housing cooperatives and tenants. Milton Park is now considered the largest community of co-ops in Canada.
