History of MONTREAL-WEST
One of the first names associated with this region is Decarie colonizing the territory known as Notre -Dame- de-Grâce in 1653. During the War of 1812, a U.S. Army aiming for the invasion of Montreal was postponed at the Battle of Châteauguay in 1813. The town hall was built in 1910 on the site of a tavern known as the “Halfway House” because this stagecoach stop was halfway about, between the port of Montreal and the dock Lachine. When it opened, the town hall included a billiard room, a bowling alley, administrative as well as community office meeting rooms.

Today, the ground floor of the residential building of the tower contains a museum with many aspects of community life in Montreal West over the years.
