History of PIERREFONDS
The history of the ancient city of Pierrefonds back to 1741 when the parish of Sainte- Geneviève is based, then it is composed of what we know as the cities of Pierrefonds, Île Bizard – Sainte -Geneviève, Roxboro and Dollard -Des Ormeaux. In 1904, after already several splittings, the city of Sainte- Geneviève is divided into two new villages: Sainte -Geneviève and Sainte- Geneviève de Pierrefonds. Pierrefonds name appears for the first time.
At the heart of the dispute that caused the separation is the notary Joseph- Adolphe Chauret. The latter built in 1902, a mansion reminding the town of Pierrefonds in the Oise in France. Moreover, he called his home Pierrefonds Castle, whence, it seems, the name of the future city. Strangely, in 1935, the two villages revert a single town Sainte- Geneviève. The name of Pierrefonds disappears to review the day December 18, 1958 as the rest of the territory of the former parish of Sainte- Geneviève became the town of Pierrefonds.
In 2002, the City of Pierrefonds was merged with the City of Montreal. On 1 January 2006, after a referendum where residents of Pierrefonds decide to stay within the city of Montreal, the borough of Pierrefonds -Roxboro is formed.
Pierrefonds is the birthplace of singer and actress Mylène Farmer (1961), singer-songwriter who sold the most records in French-speaking Europe.
