MAISON CONDO DUPLEX TRIPLEX A VENDRE QUARTIER POINTE-AUX-TREMBLES

History of POINTE-AUX-TREMBLES

In the early 1660s, the Sulpician, lords of the island of Montreal, encourage the settlement of this part of the island. Faced with the threat of the Iroquois, a fort was built to defend the colonization of the island of Montreal and protect the banks of the St. Lawrence River, on which grew aspen trees of the variety of poplars. Fort Pointe-aux-Trembles was built around 1690 to the present site of the old village center of Pointe -aux- Trembles.

At the end of the territory, near the boulevard Gouin and street Office, a bronze plaque recalls the Battle Grou where French colonists and the Iroquois clashed. Along the rue Notre-Dame, a series of historical places or interest are identified and recalled that Pointe-aux-Trembles was in another time at the crossroads in the history of New France. Another plate, located around the park Clementine De La Rousselière, indicates that it is at this precise point that General Murray touched earth from Île Sainte-Thérèse across the river and then walk on Montreal.

Pointe -aux- Trembles took off in the first half of the eighteenth century with the construction of the King’s Road, the main road between Montreal and Quebec. Pointe-aux-Trembles then served as a staging post for travelers. It is now a residential area.

In 1974, immortalized the three hundredth anniversary of the city by changing the name of Daniel-Johnson Boulevard for the Tercentenary. It is perpendicular to the river at the spot where once stood the headland covered aspen jutting out into the river and which still exists a strip of land called the sandbar.

In 1982, due to financial problems, the City of Pointe-aux-Trembles is annexed to the City of Montreal. Since 2002 municipal mergers, Pointe-aux-Trembles is integrated into the district of Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles.
