History of PLATEAU-MONT-ROYAL

This area is located north of downtown and east of Mount Royal. This is one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Canada, with 100 000 people live so that the area of the district is only 8 km2.

Plateau is in the early twentieth century a working class neighborhood with , east of the Rue Saint -Denis , a largely francophone sector, while the western part rather includes ethnic communities , including Jewish . The district is the birthplace of playwright Michel Tremblay and Mordecai Richler, two authors who wrote several stories set on the Plateau of the fifties and sixties.

This phenomenon of gentrification is observable. For example, many rents have doubled since the early 2000s, probably simply because the neighborhood is run. This area is located between Pine Avenue and Avenue du Mont Royal, St- Denis to Park Avenue.
