History of WESTMOUNT

From the moment the first colonists settled there in the middle of the seventeenth century, this area is known by many names including La Petite Montagne, Notre -Dame- de-Grâce and Côte-Saint- Antoine. Early settlers still a farm, Hurtubise House, currently under renovation. The choice of WESTMOUNT, which is required from 1895, reflects the location of this city on the southwest slope of Mount Royal and the presence of a large Protestant anglophone population, easy, often of Scottish origin.

During the twentieth century, WESTMOUNT is a wealthy suburb of Montreal, a city of small size – only 4 km2 – densely populated, which has an enviable reputation for its green spaces and quality of life. One can observe this time the achievements of the architect Robert Findlay, a former resident of WESTMOUNT Library, City Hall and several other buildings of public order. Even today, WESTMOUNT suburb where residents are among the most fortunate of Canada.

The city was designated a national historic site by the Committee on Historic Sites and Monuments of Canada in 2011.
